海洋环境热力学讲习班通知
5123导航将于2009年11月24日至12月3日举办“海洋环境热力学”讲习班。这个讲习班主要目的是探讨海水热力学在大洋风生和热盐环流以及全球生态中的重要作用,将由美国Woods Hole海洋研究所著名的物理海洋学家黄瑞新教授主讲,戴民汉教授与焦念志教授做专题报告,从基础概念到国际研究的前沿,为学生介绍大尺度风生环流及海洋环境。讲习班主要面向研究生及青年学者。时间安排大致如下:上午讲课和专题报告,下午由青年学者和学生报告最新研究成果,并在讲习班期间安排一次本地游览。本讲习班将为青年学生和学者提供一个自由交流和切磋学术的论坛,希望踊跃报名.

Preface
This workshop is focused on thermodynamics of the oceanic environment which will be held in Xiamen, November 24-December 3, 2009. The main goal of this workshop is to bring the students from the fundamental concepts to the research frontier in large-scale wind-driven/thermohaline circulation and marine environment. The workshop consists of two parts: lectures by the principal lectures in the morning sessions and seminars on recent advances in this field by young scientists and students in the afternoon session. In addition, a trip to local tourist sites will be organized during the workshop.
We have prepare a lecture note, in which a sensible balance is made between physical concepts fundamental to the oceanic circulation/environment, the well established theories, and the recent development associated with the frontiers in our field. Although theories about the oceanic circulation/environment have developed over the past several decades, it seems clear that our understanding remains rudimentary at the best. We have made a major effort in describing and explaining the physical/chemical/ecological aspects of the circulation/ environment, without relying on the sometime elaborate mathematics. To aid the readers, we have included many cartoons illustrating the physics/ chemistry/ ecology.
We hope this lecture note will help students to understand the foundation of the modern theory of wind-driven/thermohaline circulation and global environment and move forward along this direction. This workshop will provide a forum of free exchanging and discussedion of scientific ideas between young scholars and students. We look forward to seeing many young students and scholars to join us in this workshop.
